I am writing you to say that I see you hurting and I see you contemplating.
And I am here to tell you that you are not alone.
You may be wondering on when I say that ‘I see you’? I might not see you on a daily bases or even know you personally, but the reason that I see you is because I see me. I see who I used to be. I see the girl that felt like there was no way out of her life. I see teary eyes and sleepless nights. You feel like you have no direction and you may feel lonely. I envision the days that you wanted to give up and throw in the towel. I see that nights that you almost did throw in the towel. Really, you probably want to ‘throw in your life’, not a towel!
Friend, I am here to tell you that you are not alone. You are not the only one going through this and most importantly you are not by yourself. This is my letter to you, my friend.
I remember when I was at the lowest part of my life and God softly reminded me of words that I once forgotten in the mixture of my tainted life…
Best Friends Forever!
I was sitting in my bed right before I graduated college when God reminded me that I am his friend. Have you ever felt like no one understands you and what you are feeling? No matter how much you try to articulate your words or cry for help, for some reason, they just don’t get it. They don’t see your tears, sincerely. They only see them as weakness. Then, when you speak they see your words as if they are reading a blank page.
Now, let me state that I have an amazing family and a couple of friends that I could call on. So, I was not necessarily alone in that context at the time but I felt alone in my heart. When I was in my room by myself with no one who was nearby to comfort me, I felt alone. Nevertheless, I was softly reminded that I am a friend of Jesus; Read John 15:14. And guess what the same if for you when you follow Him and build a relationship together.
“You are my friends if you do what I command… You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit- fruit that will last- and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” –John 15:14, 16
You Are Not Alone
At that very moment in my bed, I decided that I would give my life to Christ. I tell people this all of the time. Why!? Because I was not at church when I gave my life to Christ. I did it right in the comfort of my home. It was just that simple. It is not bad if you go to church to get receive salvation. I am not saying that at all. Please don’t read the words that I say wrong. However, salvation is the declaration and most importantly the inward change that you make in order to live your life like Christ. And in the moment where I felt like it was my loneliest moment I felt a warm sensation of comfort. This was the Holy Spirit. God promises you the Holy Spirit when you keep his commands; Read John 14:15-18. That is was I felt that night and the Holy Spirit has been with me ever since.
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” –John 14:15-18
From that day forward, I learned not to look at myself for comfort or my family and friends for validation but to look at my Father as a friend and comforter. I am going to say this again as stated in one of the previous paragraphs. I have an amazing family and wonderful friends and they are always there when I need them. I have to say this because you know people. They will be quick to read this and say that I am saying that I don’t have anyone that I can rely on in my life. VERY wrong! Definitely, not a true statement. However, I am saying for those who don’t have that support or maybe that support in not conveniently there at the moments that you need them, then there is a friend that you can always call on. Jehovah-Shammah.
